If you own a home and you have a mortgage, you must maintain homeowner’s insurance protection.  Even if you don’t have a mortgagee it's a good idea to insure your home in order to replace or repair the things that are too expensive to pay for yourself like a new roof or to rebuild your home in case of a total loss.
